THERAPY
hyperbaric
oxygen
(mHBOT)

What is it?

Themild hyperbaric oxygen therapy, eithermHBOTis the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment at a level greater than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA). Theincreased pressureallows theoxygen dissolves and saturates more easily in our blood plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid and all fluids inside our body (Henry's Gas Law).

This is independent of red blood cell (erythrocyte) countsbecause under pressureat 4-7 psi, theoxygen increases 300-600% within the plasmaand is more easily delivered to every cell throughout the human body. We use levels ofATA (pressure) of1.3because research has shown to be thebest treatmentfor neurocognitive conditions and system optimization.

We transport oxygen to our brain, organs, and other tissues primarily through red blood cells that contain hemoglobin, which is a protein molecule that binds up to four oxygen molecules and is contained within each red blood cell. Each red blood cell has 250,000 Hg molecules with the help of iron binding to oxygen in each subunit, for a total of 1 billion possible oxgyen molecules. We only have a certain number of red blood cells, so under normal conditions, we are limited in the amount of oxygen we can supply, known as carrying capacity.

Why is this important?Theoxygenis henecessary requirementforproduce ATP, eitherEnergyfor any process within the human body. It is the last electron acceptor in the electron transport chain. As cells receive more oxygen through hyperbaric treatments, they create more energy, regenerating and strengthening themselves, resolving many health conditions and complaints.

Not only that, butit increases the flow of all body fluids, improving blood flow, cerebrospinal fluid flow, lymphatic flow (helping in detoxification), activation of stem cells within the brain, and many other benefits.

This produces a wide variety of effects.physiological, biochemicalsYcell phones. This non-invasive therapy isthe most reliable way to increasethe levels ofoxygenin all organs of theBody.

This non-invasive therapy is the easiest way for our body to absorb oxygen to tissues and organs that cannot absorb enough oxygen. It has been shown thatincreases oxygen penetration 400% deeper into our tissues and organs compared to our typical blood supply.

Other amazing features of this treatment is thatreduces inflammation, destroys bacteria, and increases white blood cell/stem cell production.

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) creates substantial and accelerated healing for conditions Acute and Chronic Neurological, Developmental Disorders (ADHD/Autism), Brain Injury/Concussion, Autoimmune Conditions, Lyme Disease, Migraines, Headaches, Musculoskeletal and Athletic Injuries, Athletic Recovery, Post-Surgical Healing, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, wellness and more.

The perfect analogy to understand mHBOT therapy according to Dr. Jean Carlos Acevedo:
“It is similar to what you see in a soda can, as the CO2 particles are under pressure and therefore decrease in size enough that they dissolve in the liquid. When you open the can, the pressure is released, the CO2 particles increase in size and you see the effervescence. This is exactly what happens to its oxygen molecules as they shrink under pressure and dissolve in blood plasma. This exponentially increases oxygen delivery throughout the body and makes it possible for oxygen to enter inflamed tissue or tissue that is oxygen starved (hypoxic) to support optimal cellular activity and healing._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_ As soon as they return to atmospheric pressure, the effect of hyper-saturation of oxygen takes place, similar to the process of effervescence in liquid."

Dr. Jean Acevedo, DC, DACNB, FMHC is Board Certified in Functional Hyperbaric Medicine

How do oxygen molecules go 400% deeper into your tissues like they do with hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

They dissolve in our blood plasma and the oxygen molecules are much smaller than red blood cells and with a further increase in blood flow, huge amounts of oxygen can reach injured and hypoxic tissues. Oxygen molecules also shrink under this pressure and can squeeze through constricted blood vessels, inflamed tissue, cross the blood-brain barrier, enter lymph nodes, cerebrospinal fluid, and the musculoskeletal system.

Essentially, oxygen is delivered to all of our tissues, especially the highly metabolic areas of the brain and other regions, as oxygen is essential for the function and maintenance of every cell in our body, regardless of whether it is an organ. , muscle or bone.

We need oxygen for any healing or repair, because it produces energy for our cells - the mHBOT facilitates that delivery.

Oxygen is the final electron acceptor in the electron transport chain, which is where all ATP is made. This is known as aerobic respiration, or how our cells breathe. Oxygen is essential for life, but it is the way it affects the function of every cell in the human body that makes it necessary for healing and life. Without oxygen, we cannot produce energy for our brains, organs, or any tissue. The more oxygen we can supply to our tissues, the healthier, more energetic and mentally well we will feel. It has a very high affinity for electrons (high electronegativity), which makes it a good electron acceptor and perfect in its role. In short, oxygen allows us to produce ATP, which is our body's energy currency required by all cellular processes to function and heal, supporting normal body and brain function.

Brain injury, concussion/contusion, migraines, stress, anxiety, depression, and other neurological conditions:

This becomes really important when we're treating the brain, as it requires energy, or ATP, to heal, just like any cell in our body does. People who have suffered a concussion/brain injury, who suffer from migraines, headaches, or who experience neurological symptoms can especially benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Our brain, specifically the autonomic nervous system, regulates where blood flow will increase or decrease in response to metabolic demand. We often lose our ability to provide proper amounts of oxygen to the brain and various other structures in the body when the master system, our nervous system, is affected. The brain requires oxygen, glucose, and activation to maintain normal function, and therefore by providing oxygen through mHBOT therapy, we can create neuroplasticity, which is the strengthening of healthy neurological pathways, patterns, and signals, generating new interneural connections , providing a healthier brain.

complications

When used in standard protocols, the mHBOT is safe. In our office, we do not allow pressure to rise above 1.3 ATA, which provides a very safe and comfortable environment for most patients. If not, we remove it from the chamber and alter our protocol for treatment. At these levels, patients could behave as if they were in the comfort of home, as seen in high-performance athletes. The most common complication during mHBOT is barotrauma (pressure injury resulting from an inability to equalize the pressure of an air-containing space and the surrounding environment), usually of the middle ear. The development of reversible myopia and the opacity of pre-existing cataracts are other rare complications of mHBOT. We take as many precautions as possible so you don't experience any of these complications, and since these are much lower level chambers than hospital settings, there is minimal risk.
